More diamonds for your money- How we do it.

Posted On 22.3.10 by CaratLane | 1 comments

We recently mailed our clients the results of a study that we undertook comparing the price of our products to those sold by competitors. The sample product used for the study was our popular single line diamond bangle. The findings were astounding - our diamond price is 30% - 50% lower than at other stores.

The two biggest reasons for our low prices are:

1. Negligible inventory costs

Firstly, caratlane jewellery is literally made to order. The jewellery you choose from our website is created after we receive your order. This means we have no expensive idle inventory that threaten to hike up costs of the final product.

2. Very low operational costs

Secondly, as an exclusively online store, we save enormously on the costs that would be involved in a regular showroom, such as infrastructural expenses, labour and other running expenses.

These cost advantages help CaratLane accrue impressive savings - a benefit that we are delighted to pass on our customer. It is as simple as that. If you have wondered how we manage to deliver exceptional diamond jewellery at the prices on display, you know now.

If you have further questions about our business, do write to us at contactus@caratlane.com or call us at our Toll Free Number 1800-102-0103. We would love to hear from you.

1. Not all diamonds are made equal. Of all the diamonds mined, only 20% are found good enough for jewellery. The remaining 80% go on to industrial uses.

2. When they say diamonds add sparkle to your looks, we are sure you only thought of jewellery. Did you know diamond dust is a popular feature in skin care products, and in procedures like microdermabrasion? Talk about shining skin...

3. We hate to break it to you, but diamonds don't really last FOREVER. But a few billion years is a guarantee, and that is usually good enough for most people. By the way, most diamonds found in nature are 1 to 3 BILLION years old!

4. The Cullinan diamond, also known as the star of Africa is the largest diamond ever found and weighs roughly 3106 carats. It is now part of the British crown jewels.

5. Dying stars, known as cool white dwarfs, have a diamond core. Curious about what these cores weigh? Well, hold onto your hats, the diamond core of a recently discovered dying star is estimated to weigh 10 billion trillion trillion carats!!

Diamonds on the Red Carpet - Oscars 2010

Posted On 9.3.10 by CaratLane | 0 comments

Well, the Oscars are finally over, and all the tense speculation about the winners is well behind us. But as always, every red carpet ceremony is a bling watch moment for us, and that is exactly what we did this time around too. And here is the scoop on all the diamond rings, bracelets, earrings:

Above: Charlize Theron wearing platinum and diamond cluster earrings and bracelet, both from Harry Winston.

After yet another even of bare shoulders, a trend we first noticed during the Grammy event, we realized that the style is certainly here to stay for a while. Just like at Grammy 2010, big & bold were definitely in. At the Oscars, though, we saw a lot more of cluster diamond jewellery, while chandelier earrings dominated Grammy. We also noticed the heavy presence of platinum & diamond jewellery.

Above: Amanda Seyfried is wearing diamond and platinum cluster earrings from Lorraine Schwartz.

Above: Jennifer Lopez is seen wearing Cartier platinum and diamond earrings... As usual, J Lo looks simply stunning wearing these circa 1934 earrings.

Above: Sandra Bullock, who won the Oscar for her lead role in The Blind Side, couldn't have chosen better bling for her big night - platinum and diamond earrings from Neil Lane. Congrats, Sandra!!

Birthstone of the month - Aquamarine

Posted On 8.3.10 by CaratLane | 0 comments

Aquamarine - midway between blue and green, reminiscent of languid, clear ocean waves on a bright summer day.

Aquamarine is a beryl variant and a relative of emerald that occurs naturally in India, Pakistan and parts of Africa, Brazil, and most recently, in China.

The word Aquamarine originates from Aqua and Mare, Latin for sea water. The name reflects the colour of these beautiful stones which can range from pale blue-green to deep blue, but always in various shades of ocean blue. Not surprisingly, therefore, myths and legends associate this stone with the sea - the stone was believed to be treasured by mermaids, and therefore were considered lucky for seafarers. Sailors wore this stone for courage, safe passage and protection from storms and other dangers at sea.

In the Indian tradition, Aquamarine is believed to bring clarity of expression, and is associated mainly with the throat Chakra. The stone is also prized as a powerful meditation aid.

Aura Diamond & Aquamarine Pendant

This month, CaratLane has unveiled its birthstone jewellery collection featuring aquamarines and diamonds. The beautiful sky blue of this jewel makes it a fantastic gemstone for fashion jewellery. Youthful and vibrant, aquamarines can be worn all round the year, and add cheer and vivacity to your look.

Last week, on the Filmfare awards night, we had our eyes peeled for who was wearing what jewellery. This year, the trend was towards minimalism - we rarely saw co-ordinated sets or large necklaces. However, large, chunky earrings were in, with almost everyone sporting eye-catching drops such as these:

Udita Goswami

Genelia Dsouza's earrings were unique and arresting, composed of what appear to be diamonds, onyx and a pearl:

We also loved Celina Jaitley's dazzling drops - they seem to be pave diamonds set in a beautiful, large, teardrop shape:
